Housing

Housing is an important question when you are coming to Hawaii for the first time. We recommend you find a room to rent in a home or share an apartment. Housing is readily available and it is often easier to find a place you like once you are here.

Where to live? What part of the island? Kailua (windward) or Honolulu?
If you want a small town atmosphere, blocks from the best beaches (sun rises) where you can walk, ride your bike or skate board, I recommend staying in Kailua. You can always ride the bus or catch a ride to Honolulu or Waikiki for a concert or a party or the mall. We have a good health food store (where students find jobs), juice bar, internet cafes, great shops...really almost anything you need.

If you think you'll miss big city life, smells, traffic, and sirens, well, Waikiki has it all....and great food, great beaches and the sunsets.. There are also several towns on the windward side (Kane’ohe, Waimanalo) that are close but will require more transportation than your feet. The #56 Bus stops in front of our school.

When you first arrive? Where to stay?
A bed and breakfast in Kailua is a good idea for a few days as you find your way. Please check the internet; you will find many sites. 2 of our favorites who know our school are:
www.affordable-paradise.com
www.sharonsserenity.com

You can expect to pay $50 a day and up. There are also inexpensive HOTELS in Waikiki which can be rented by the week depending on availability and season.

There are a couple of HOSTELS in Waikiki:
Hawaiian Hostel 808-924-3303
The YWCA is 808-941-2231 and in out of the hustle bustle of Waikiki.
There are 3 YMCAs in different locations: 808-941-3344, 808-536-3556, 808-946-0253
Our two newspapers have on-line classified ads, as well as local news, weather, and events.
