Barbara
Matayoshi was born in Hawaii and grew up in Kailua.
She graduated
from Hawaii Loa College, with a B.A. in Communicative
Arts. For 15 years she was an art instructor for
children ages 5-14 at Le Jardin Academy, a private school
in Kailua and at the Honolulu Academy of Arts. In 1991,
while experiencing the benefits of massage, Barbara decided
to enroll in the Aloha Institute of Massage and Healing Arts. In
1992 she became licensed as a massage therapist. Over
the years she has become certified in sports massage,
hypnotherapy, and Healing Touch. She has taken advanced
class work in Lomilomi, Polarity Therapy, Cranio-Sacral
Therapy, Hot Rock therapy, Neurolinguistic Programming,
and Clinical Aromatherapy.
In 1998 she participated in her first Healing Touch for Animals and Komitor
Method of Healing Class. She began volunteering at a ranch where she worked
with horses
and practiced her skills. In April, 2001, she became a instructor of Healing
Touch for Animals and Komitor Method of Healing. Currently Barbara co-directs
the Aloha Institute of Massage and Healing Arts with Elizabeth Reveley.
She is an instructor in the program and maintains a small practice
for
humans
and animals.
For two years Barbara and two of her colleagues have participated in a very
special program at the Honolulu Zoo. There they use Healing Touch and other
energy modalities
in a distant healing format. In May, 2003, she completed her certification
in Animal Communication.
